The 147.435 repeater Of Los Angeles, California has always been "way out there". Located at 2417' above sea level on Saddle Peak in the Malibu hills, the call sign W6NUT pretty much captures the quality of people this repeater has brought to 2 meters and the Los Angeles ham radio community in general. This repeater is known as a Free Speech repeater meaning that no subject is left untouched. It has been said that this repeater is best used only if you brought a helmet. This is not a repeater that one would count on in case of emergency.

It is surprising how popular this repeater is though. Many articles have Been published in the Los Angeles Times as well as QST. Unfortunately most all of Them seem to focus on certain "BAD" operator's who are either currently on the air with no license or are in jail for other UN-435 related offences.

Currently Live Audio of "435" is available on the Internet (at live365.com) for your enjoyment providing you have Real Audio Player version 5 or better. And why not, rumor has it that 90% of all 2 meter radios turned in to repair services in the Los Angeles area repair shops have 147.435 programmed into them, sound like a lot of people listening to us.

Currently we see about 80 different people a day (regulars) using this system and about another 10 to 15 people a day visitors we call (victims or newbies). 147.435 seems to have a history that would Indicate that it would be one of the first repeaters in the Southern California area.
